The Bank of Israel Will Hold a Public Competition for the Design of New Banknotes

For the first time, the Bank of Israel will hold a public competition among graphic designers for the design of its new banknote series, which the Bank, with the authorization of the government, has decided to issue. In the next few days the exact terms of the competition, accompanied by an official notice from the Bank, will be published on the Bank of Israel's website and in printed newspapers.
The Bank of Israel will issue a new series of State of Israel banknotes, which will replace the current one, which has been in circulation since 1999. The redesigned series will incorporate advanced security features. The new series will contain the current denominations of NIS 20, 50, 100, and 200. The banknotes are expected to enter circulation over the next two to three years.
The government recently authorized the decision reached by the Governor, to adopt the recommendation of the Committee for the Planning of Banknotes, Coins, and Commemorative Coins, regarding the figures whose portraits will appear on the banknotes:
NIS 20 bill: Rachel Bluwstein ("Rachel the Poetess")
NIS 50 bill: Poet Shaul Tchernichovsky
NIS 100 bill: Poetess and author Leah Goldberg
NIS 200 bill: Poet Natan Alterman
