The latest Companies Survey, which was conducted from the middle of June through the third week of July of this year, indicates a marked contraction of business sector activity in the second quarter of 2020, due to the coronavirus crisis. The net balance in the overall business sector continued to decline sharply in the second quarter to a very negative level, below the level reached in the first quarter of 2009 and to the level reached in 2001–02 (Figure 1 and Table 1).
